SAINTS have been given a 45 per cent chance of finishing in the Championship’s top six this season, according to a new supercomputer.

It is an increase of 14 per cent on their chances before Tuesday's 5-0 win over QPR moved Saints to seventh in the table, four points behind Wrexham.

The figures, compiled by Compare.bet, suggest Saints are still in the top two mix, with a 10 per cent probability of going up at the start of May.

The model gives Tonda Eckert's side a zero per cent chance of winning the title and also rules out relegation, with 18 and 16 point gaps respectively.

It uses a range of statistical inputs, including league position, goal difference, xG metrics, betting odds, points per game data and schedule difficulty.

The model then simulates the remainder of the season 10,000 times to generate percentage probabilities for outcomes such as winning promotion.

At the top of the table, Coventry City saw their title chances surge following a comeback victory over Sheffield United earlier in the week.

Frank Lampard's prospects of lifting the trophy now sit at 68 per cent likely, having opened up a five-point gap on second-place Middlesbrough.

To finish in the top six, Boro (95 per cent), Ipswich (92 per cent), Millwall (81 per cent), Hull City (76 per cent), and Wrexham (76 per cent) are all fancied.

At the bottom end, managerless West Bromwich Albion saw their relegation risk increase to 45 per cent following a 1-1 draw with Charlton Athletic.

But, despite their recent improvement, Leicester are still considered the most likely side to take the final relegation spot at 54 per cent chance.
