SAINTS boss Tonda Eckert said Taylor Harwood-Bellis has been training despite not featuring for the team amid speculation about his future.
The 24 year old was not part of the squad for the second game running as Saints were beaten 4-1 by West Ham in the second round of the Carabao Cup.
The St Mary's side rejected an £18million offer for Harwood-Bellis from Aston Villa this month, but the Villans have for now left the table.
It leaves his future uncertain, with Saints standing firm on their valuation of the one-time England international whom they signed for £20m.
Eckert refused to confirm whether Harwood-Bellis would be reintegrated into the squad for Saturday's Championship match against Millwall.
"We are having conversations," Eckert told the Daily Echo. "Let's see how the next few days go; maybe we have something to announce.
"He's been around. When you're in the middle of negotiations, and you have the idea to play in the Champions League, it's not always easy to process.
"I tried to say something on the weekend. But he's around, and he's training, so let's see what the next days will hold for him."
With Harwood-Bellis absent, the microscope moved to the centre-backs selected, with Jack Stephens having a difficult night against Joel Piroe.
"As a group, there's things that we need to do better, things to work on, work to do. I wouldn't point that down to any individual players," said Eckert.
