SAINTS right-back Yukinari Sugawara has completed a deadline day loan exit to Serie A side Cagliari, with an option to buy.

Sugawara, 26, hasn't been part of head coach Tonda Eckert's plans since returning from an extended break, having played for Japan at the World Cup.

The right-back spent last season on loan at Bundesliga side Werder Bremen and hasn't featured in a matchday squad back at Saints this campaign.

Italian media have reported to buy option is worth around €5.5million.

The defender has made 35 appearances for Saints since joining from AZ Alkmaar in 2024. Cagliari finished 14th in Serie A last season.

Saints have also confirmed the loan exit of Cameron Archer to Auxerre. Damion Downs is also expected to leave on loan, joining MLS side St Louis.
