AC MONZA manager Ivan Juric issued praise for Saints loanee Jay Robinson after he was "great" for the Italian club on his first start.

Robinson, 19, was influential during a 76-minute appearance against fellow Serie A side Torino in the round of 32 in the Italian Cup.

The winger completed the most dribbles on the pitch with four and picked up the most touches in the opposition box with nine, illustrating his threat.

And he nearly got the goal his performance deserved, but was denied by the post after curling a right-footed effort from the edge of the area.

Juric, who had Robinson training with the first team during his stint as Saints manager 18 months ago, was impressed by the youngster's showing.

“Jay is a very young kid," said Juric. He’s still far from his potential because he is still physically developing, but he played a great game today.

“He couldn’t play in the Championship at Southampton, but here I think we can bring out the best in him.”

Robinson had been limited to just one substitute appearance previously for Monza, coming on in their league defeat to Inter Milan two weeks ago.
