MARK Wotte has issued a passionate plea to all Saints fans as he and his side prepare to resume their survival bid this weekend – “prove we are not alone in our fight to stay up.”

The Saints head coach says he and his players will be doing everything they can in their remaining seven games to preserve the club’s Championship status.

And he has urged all Saints supporters to do the same by packing into St Mary’s and roaring the team on during their last three homes fixtures of the season – starting on Saturday with what Wotte described as Saints’ “most important game of the season” against Charlton.

To encourage more fans to attend the game Saints have launched a couple of promotional offers ahead of the visit of the rock-bottom south Londoners.

The club has slashed ticket prices for the game – adults down to £15 and concessions tickets will be priced at £5.

And for a limited period they are also offering a voucher, which can be exchanged for a ticket to one of the three remaining home games, to every fan who buys a Saints home shirt.

Addressing the fans, Wotte said: “We need everybody on Saturday.

“It is a such a must win game, Charlton Athletic at home, and we need all the support that we can get.

“There are only three home games left so I hope everybody knows the situation.

“We are having a difficult season but the team has stepped up in the last six or seven weeks and we are trying desperately to do everything that is needed to stay up in the Championship.

“We are working every day on that and if we can get a lot of support from the fans that will be fantastic.

“You cannot imagine how it feels for the players if they see all those fans really supporting us.”

As a result of the general improvement in Saints’ home form recently attendances at St Mary’s have also been on the up.

Wotte is hoping Saints can attract a crowd that is at least close to their season-high for the ultra crucial visit of Charlton.

“I hope that we have around 20-25,000 people coming that will be such a massive boost for our players,” he said.

“We really need everybody in the Southampton area supporting us.

“Every game is important but for me Charlton Athletic is the most important game of the season.

“We need to win three or four games at least so we have to make sure Saturday is the first of those.”

Wotte also urged supporters to take the club up on their promotional offer on home shirts and said seeing St Mary’s packed out with fans decked in the red and white of Saints would inspire his players.

“If the stadium is red and white with shirts then I know we are not alone in this fight and sometimes you need that extra boost to the players.

“We don’t want to be alone in this fight – we need everybody.”
