SWANSEA have tabled an increased bid for Nathan Dyer – but it still falls far short of being respectable.

That revelation came from head coach Mark Wotte, who said the Welsh club had upped their bid for the midfielder who finished last season on loan at the Liberty Stadium.

However, Wotte does not think it is anywhere near good enough and believes the Swans are reneging on a previous deal.

They are known to be offering substantially less than £500,000 – a figure closer to what Saints are rumoured to value the 21-year-old at.

“During the season, somewhere in February or March, there was a deal with Swansea and I really think that they have to keep their word about this deal,” he said.

“I don’t see any reason why they had to come back with a lesser deal.

“If they are willing to stand by that first deal then we can proceed.

“They offered half of this money a couple of weeks ago and now increased it a little bit, but it is still not good enough.”

Wotte added he would happily keep Dyer if Swansea don’t up their bid, especially as his wages will be cut due to relegation.

Dyer signed a new contract at St Mary’s only last summer but Rupert Lowe inserted a clause which stated there would be a substantial cut in the event of relegation.

“The offer that has been made is still not good enough for this quality of player and really I would prefer to have Nathan back for Southampton,” said the Dutchman.
