MYSTERY surrounds the identity of the wealthy men said to be willing to invest in Saints on condition Rupert Lowe is forced out of St Mary's.

Both prospective chief executive Jim Hone and rebel director Paul Thompson have indicated that big money investors ARE waiting for a change of management at the very top.

But both have remained tight-lipped on their identity, saying only that they are wealthy Saints supporters who are keeping their money in their pocket because of the presence of Lowe.

In the week manager George Burley is due back from holiday to begin his Saints rebuilding ahead of next season's anticipated promotion campaign, it was claimed he needs to be given £20m to push the club back to the Premiership.

Thompson said: "There are other passionate supporters of the club who, in the right circumstances, might be prepared to invest in the club and join the board.

"I believe that the door should always be open for them."
