SAINTS’ defence has been transformed into the meanest in League One under manager Nigel Adkins.
Since Adkins took over at St Mary’s, Saints have become the hardest side to score against in the division.
They have conceded just three times in the last six games and only once in the last five.
But Saints will face a real test of their defensive strength when they visit free-scoring Huddersfield this Saturday.
The Terriers were the top scorers at home in League One last season and won 3-0 at Colchester last weekend.
But former Saints boss Dave Merrington has been encouraged by Saints’ resolute displays.
“They’re very tight now and they’re defending much better,” he said.
“They’re turning in clean sheets and that’s got to be the result of what they’re doing on the training ground.”
