Southampton teenager Max Brick has struck gold in the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

Brick, 18, and Tom Daley won the the 10metre synchro event in India this morning.

The English duo, who were performing in front of 2012 chairman Sebastian Coe at the Dr SP Mukherjee Aquatics Complex, took the title ahead of Australia with Canada third and Malaysia last in a four-team final.

The pair moved into the lead following their second dive and entered the final round 11.52points ahead of Australia in a straight fight between the two.

The Australians produced a well-executed, intricate effort on their last attempt but it was not enough to dislodge the English pair.

Brick and Daley enjoyed a solid final dive to end with 439.65 to beat the Australians by 15.84pts.

Brick said: "I am so happy. Hopefully there's more gold to come tomorrow (10m platform). "We've been training hard and working hard and it all paid off." On his synchro pairing with Brick, Daley said: "We could really become a strong synchro team. If we work hard and train hard we could become a force to reckon with." And he added: "It was a very tough event but we have been putting a lot of work in.

"We did one of the hardest dives in our list but we pulled it off and we got a massive personal best as well.

"We wanted to come here and do well and to get the gold was the icing on the cake."
