Kelvin Davis will make his Saints debut at Bristol City tonight as George Burley gears up for a more "physical" pre-season tester.
The 29-year-old keeper who joined last week from Sunderland for £800,000, will play a part at Ashton Gate (7.45pm).
But the pre-season friendly, one of three this week as George Burley finalises his plans for the new Championship season, has come too soon for another new signing, Pele.
The Portuguese central defender is still working on his fitness.
After two wins and eight goals in two games during their pre-season tour to Sweden last week, Burley is hoping for more encouraging signs from his side tonight.
"British football is more competitive," said Burley, whose side won 4-0 against Kungshamns and 4-2 against Halmstads last week.
"It gives you more of an idea and it's always important to get a few games against British teams under your belt.
"It's more of a physical test and maybe sometimes it's more realistic for the start of the season."
