Bournemouth boss Sean O'Driscoll has confirmed his interest in taking Saints striker Leon Best on loan.

Best is competing with six other strikers for a first team slot at Saints and is likely to find his first team chances limited this season.

He has only played 45 minutes of competitive football for Saints under George Burley he was withdrawn at half-time in the 2-1 win against Brighton at St Mary's back in early January.

Best subsequently joined Sheffield Wednesday on loan, for the second time in 2005/06, later that month.

O'Driscoll was impressed by the 19-year-old when the sides met each other in a behind closed doors friendly a fortnight ago at Staplewood.

He said: "He is one of the players we've asked about. Saints are trying to get players in, so Leon might be a possibility for us.

"If he were to become available, we would be interested in him."
