Saints defender Danny Higginbotham has been transfer listed.
The 27-year-old former Manchester United star will be sold this summer after rejecting a new contract offer.
Higginbotham was originally angry over what he considered a poor offer from former chairman Rupert Lowe to extend his contract which is due to end next summer.
The new board have offered him an improved deal but Higginbotham has decided not to sign, meaning Saints will sell.
George Burley said: "It is very disappointing but if he does not want to stay then there is no point in forcing him.
"He turned down a new contract last season and we have come back with an improved offer but he has rejected the offer.
"He feels he wants to move and his agent has asked us to circulate his name which we have reluctantly agreed to do."
