Andrew Surman is targeting a starting place in next week's opening game against Derby after providing two assists as a second-half substitute against Cheltenham.
Surman replaced the Polish trialist Sebastian at half-time, before twice crossing from the left to set up the second and third goals for Dexter Blackstock and Kenwyne Jones as Saints came from behind to win 3-1 at Whaddon Road.
The left-sided midfielder, below, said: "I was just glad to get on because there were so many of us on the bench.
"Everyone did well but it couldn't have gone any better for me.
"To get the assists for the two goals was very pleasing because there's a lot of competition for places and I want to do as well as I can."
