SAINTS boss Nigel Adkins has won the League One Manager of the Month award for April.

The 46-year-old topped a shortlist that also included Huddersfield's Lee Clark, Exeter's Paul Tisdale and Sheffield Wednesday's Gary Megson.

Adkins picked up five more points than any other manager last month, with 21 from eight games, although Saints did play more matches than anyone else.

Although he has been shortlisted before, it is the first time since taking over as Saints boss that Adkins has claimed one of the monthly awards.

Adkins said: "It's a nice recognition for the coaching staff, Andy Crosby, Dean Wilkins, and the players, because they have worked ever so hard, not just this month but all season."

The manager also reassured his players that he doesn't plan to make wholesale changes to the squad this summer.

"We don't need major changes," said Adkins. "We have got a good base now. Like every football club, we do need to bring new additions in, and we will be looking to do that.

"But there doesn't need to be wholesale changes, although you obviously try and bring a bit of quality into the building."
