SAINTS’ promotion-sealing win over Walsall had a special significance for Kelvin Davis.

The goalkeeper was with Saints when they were relegated from the Championship in 2009 and has now helped them get back up.

“These are amazing supporters, it’s an amazing club,” he raved.

“This is a fantastic place to live and to play football and I’m delighted.”

Davis turned down a move to West Ham to stay at Saints almost two years ago and added: “I like to think I made the right decision.

“You look out there and see the phenomenal support and it feels like the right decision.

“When you live and work in the area you feel delighted to be here and be a part of it.”

Davis now holds the record for the most clean sheets in a season for a Saints keeper and commented: “I’m always one for the team.

“Everybody works very hard for those clean sheets.

“You always look at the last line of defence and I’m happy to be in the team, but to keep that many clean sheets I’m delighted.”

Davis has also been the club’s only ever present in their 46 League One matches.

Leading scorer Rickie Lambert started 45 of them – only missing the opening day loss at home to Plymouth.
