Saints are set to land a multi-million pound windfall.

The club’s promotion from League One to the Championship will guarantee them at least an extra £2m in revenue next season.

That is thanks to increased TV payments they will receive as a Championship club.

But that figure is nowhere near the parachute payments the three clubs relegated from the top flight will receive.

League One clubs were given a solidarity payment of £640,000 each a season as part of the current TV deal between the Football League and Sky.

That is dwarfed, though, by the payments that Championship clubs receive.

For the season just gone all clubs in the second tier of English football were handed a basic £2.4m – with more to come for clubs when their matches were broadcast live.

That figure is expected to be roughly the same next season.
