BRIGHTON boss Gus Poyet has insisted it will be a “spectacular” achievement if his team get anything at Saints.
Albion will visit St Mary’s a week on Saturday as undoubted underdogs, with the Seagulls trailing the Championship leaders by 13 points.
The tables have certainly turned from last season, when it was Saints who were trying to catch Poyet’s runaway side in League One.
In the end, Adkins’ men fell just short, but both teams were automatically promoted.
And it is now Saints’ turn to be staring down at the rest of the division.
“We are going to the team at the top of the league,” said Poyet, pictured above, whose Brighton side ended a run of nine league games without a victory by beating Barnsley 2-0 at the weekend.
“When we were top last year and people were coming to us they had nothing to lose.
“Anything you get from the game is great.
Now it’s the opposite for us.
“They are top for a reason. They are the best team in the league and they’ve been outstanding at home.
“We are going to go there and play.
“If we get something it will be spectacular.
“We are going to be in every single newspaper and on TV talking about how we stopped Southampton, which is great.”
