Warsash club member Jamie King has won the under-18 British Deaf Open for the second time.

The 16-year-old, pictured below, only started playing four years ago and was runner-up in the national deaf championships in Nottingham in his second year.

In 2005 King won the title when it was only open to British nationals.

This year it was open to overseas players as well.

Jamie is coached at Warsash by Colin Murphy, who said: "Jamie is 100 per cent committed to his tennis and is an inspiration to all those around him.

"He has never let his disability stand in the way.

"He is also assisting in coaching and is passing on his enthusiasm for the game to the children."

Warsash is one of the most active clubs in Hampshire, fielding 35 teams throughout the year in different leagues.

Chairman Ian Stewart said: "It's vitally important to develop young talent like Jamie if clubs like Warsash are not to fade away as the membership get older.

"But, more than that, it is important that they feel part of the overall set-up at the club and in society as a whole."
