THEY call him wonderkid' - and Shane Castle lived up to the nickname with an astonishing break of 40 at the age of just EIGHT.
The Marchwood youngster re-wrote the record-books at Chandler's Ford SC in this week's £1,000 Under-21 Roll-Up tournament.
Castle potted pink and blue with the last two reds, and cleared the six colours in a first round match against Ollie Tydeman.
AND he needed the rest to sink a tricky black which was tight on the side cushion to complete the clearance.
However, Tydeman, 16, won 2-1.
Castle joined the club in August last year and was soon assigned his own coach.
Former Daily Echo champion Dave Mumford who started working with him this year, said: "His break only reflects his progress over the last six months".
Club-owner Jim Everett added: "He's by far our best prospect to reach the professional ranks."
News quickly spread round the international snooker forums and internet messages of congratulations arrived from as far afield as India.
