Claus Lundekvam is looking to win a first team return when he plays for the reserves at Staplewood tonight.
The Saints skipper last week came through his first 45 minutes since being stretchered off just two minutes into the opening game of the season at Derby as the club's second string defeated Crystal Palace.
Now he is starting again tonight - alongside Michael Svensson - as Stewart Henderson's reserves host Millwall at Staplewood (7pm) Saints boss George Burley is remaining open- mined about a possible Lundekvam first team return at Leicester this weekend.
He said: "We've got Claus and Michael Svensson playing tonight.
"We'll give Claus another run-out and see how he's progressing.
"He looked better in training yesterday morning than he did last week, so he's progressing well and his fitness is getting there. Whether we play him for the whole game is another matter.
"At the moment I haven't ruled him out of the Leicester game at all."
Svensson played the full 90 minutes last week - his first game since July - and is aiming to do the same again.
But any first team return would be further away for the Swede, who has spent most of the last two and a half years on the sidelines.
A third centre half, Darren Powell, will not play but is still making a good recovery from the posterior knee ligament injury that has sidelined him since Easter Monday.
"Darren is still not quite ready. He's got a bit of tight hamstring," reported Burley of the "He had a good weeks training last week and his knee seems to be well on the mend.
"Hopefully we'll arrange a friendly game in the next week."
Bartosz Bialkowski is expected to start in goal but apart from him and the two centre halves, the side is expected to be less senior than the one fielded against Palace last week.
Of his other injured players, Burley added: "Inigo (Idiakez) joined in yesterday and we'll see how he progresses. He's got a chance for Saturday.
"Djamel (Belmadi) is not quite ready to join in but he's progressing well."
