West Ham boss Sam Allardyce has all but given up on the Championship title after a dramatic comeback against Birmingham earned his side a sixth draw in seven home matches.
Ricardo Vaz Te rescued a point for the Hammers, who were 3-1 down at half-time, with an 89th minute penalty.
But leaders Saints are now six points clear of the third-placed Irons with four games to go.
And Allardyce knows he needs the table-toppers to do his men a big favour by beating Reading at St Mary’s this Friday.
