Golden Ring ABC have three hopefuls for Schoolboy Boxing Championships titles. Lennox Gill and Lewie Fuller are through to the pre quarter-finals, which take place this weekend in Bracknell, and Albie Samways has already secured a quarter-final bout.
Gill, son of head coach Stuart, didn’t fight at the Southern Counties Final, the qualifier for tomorrow’s competition.
He got a bye after his scheduled opponent withdrew, and will now face Andrew Taylor of Pinewood Star. Fuller was in action against Guildford’s Abby Slater in the Class A Under-48kg final. His bout was a one-sided affair as Fuller, close to pulling out due to a back injury, used his strength to push back Slater from the start and claimed victory on points. He will now face Charlie Matthews from Welwyn Garden City on Saturday.
Samways has to wait until next weekend for his next action. He has yet to taste defeat in seven bouts in the Class B Under-72kg group. In the other Southern Counties finals, Reuben Barney-Smith lost to James Cooper of St Mary’s and Brad Jones (Guildford) lost to Levi Lewis. Golden Ring mopped up three victories in a club meet at Poole Lighthouse. Caleb Barnes, Sharkhhan Ahmedi and Brad Pauls all won.
