James Vince made 99 in his second game as England Lions captain.
Hampshire star Vince was lbw to South Africa A’s opening bowler, Beuran Hendricks, in the 46th over – the third of the left-armer’s final spell.
He made 99 from 95 balls, hitting nine fours and a six, and put on 198 in 26 overs with Surrey’s Jason Roy, who blitzed 141 from 110 balls (13 fours, six sixes).
It helped ensure that the Lions posted a very competitive 376-9 before dismissing their hosts for 306 as they went 2-0 up in the five-match series in Kimberley.
Vince’s previous highest one-day score for the Lions was the 63 against Bangladesh A at Taunton 18 months ago.
His 99 came just ten days after his 152* in the second and final four-day match against South Africa A.
The Lions now have the first of three chances to clinch the series in Potchefstroom on Saturday.
