ASHES star Stuart Clark wants to team up again with Shane Warne - at Hampshire.

The 31-year-old was the leading wicket-taker in the recent Ashes whitewash, his 26 victims at 17.03 being three more than Warne managed.

Two months ago, Hampshire chairman Rod Bransgrove told the Echo that the county were considering Clark as their second overseas player, alongside Warne, for 2007.

And Clark has confirmed his interest.

"The chance to play with Warney again would be fantastic," he said.

"I have really enjoyed the few opportunities I have had to bowl with him in the past, and to get the chance to do that again would be great.

"My immediate focus is on this Pura Cup season with New South Wales, but beyond that there are certainly a few opportunities out there.

"I have played for Middlesex quite recently, and there was talk earlier this season about an opportunity at Hampshire.

"We might look to reopen those talks. It's in my manager's hands."

Hampshire manager Paul Terry said: "We're trying to weigh up our options. A lot of potential overseas players are not willing to commit for a whole season but Stuart Clark's an option."

Clark was this week overlooked for the World Cup, Shaun Tait taking his place in the ODI squad instead.

That was after he took a career best 8-58 for NSW against Western Australia last weekend, including a hat-trick that saw WA slip to 19-6.

Clark finished with match figures of 10-94 as NSW, who also included ex-Hants pair Simon Katich and Dominic Thornely, won the Pura Cup match by 188 runs at the WACA in Perth.

Paul Terry gives his views who can be England's World Cup star in today's Daily Echo.
