Paul Terry believes that Ravi Bopara can be a star of next month's World Cup.

The Hampshire manager has coached the Essex batsman at his acad emy in Perth and believes he has the talent tomake a big impact in the Caribbean.

Bopara, 21, was included in the squad at the expense of Mal Loye, and Terry believes it was the right decision.

He said: "Ravi is a really good selection, he's got a lot of life about him, he's a great personality to have around and I think he'll do well if he gets the opportunity.

"He certainly won't be frightened of the big occasion, he's a vibrant individual and will bring a lotof enthusiasm to the side.

Medium pacer Bopara helped England to their first victory of the win ter over Australia on his interntaional debut a fortinight ago, when he took the wicket of Michael Hussey ina 92-run win in Sydney.

Terry added: "When he played over here he didn't have much of a chance with the bat but he won't let anyone down with his bowling and his fielding is good too.

"He's a very confident lad, he models himself on Sachin Tendulkar, and he certainly has a lot of shots in his armoury.

"He's a flamboyant player who I expect to be around for the next ten years."

Kevin Pietersen is also in the 15-man squad, and Terry believes the Hampshire batsman will go straight back into the team for the first game against New Zealand on March 16, despite missing England's thrilling comeback in the Commonwealth Bank Series.

"He's England's best player by a long stretch and should make a win ning team even stronger," said Terry.

Chris Tremlett was not in contention for a World Cup place after suffering a back injury during the Commonwealth Bank Series.

He received a lot of criticism for his performance in the defeat against New Zealand in Perth at the end of last month, before returning.

But Terry believes the injury was to blame for Tremlett's below-par fielding performance.

Tremlett had a scan on his back on Tuesday and is awaiting the results, but is hopeful of being available for the start of the new county season.

England squad: Vaughan, Joyce, Bell, Strauss, Collingwood, Flintoff, Bopara, Nixon, Dalrymple, Plunkett, Anderson, Mahmood, Lewis, Panesar.
