HAMPSHIRE are waiting to hear whether the inclusion of James Vince and Liam Dawson in England’s World Cup squad would prevent them from playing in this weekend’s One-Day Cup final.

Players cannot take part in other competitions after being selected for the World Cup – and England name their squad tomorrow.

But Hampshire are challenging the ICC regulation with the help of ECB chief executive Tom Harrison.

Hampshire chairman Rod Bransgrove told The Times: “I have been sent the regulations but they are ambivalent.

“I would not be doing my duty as chairman if I did not look into this.”
England will be playing a pre-World Cup friendly against Australia at The Ageas Bowl while

Hampshire contest the One-Day Cup final with Somerset at Lord’s.

Bransgrove continued: “The fixture list has been poorly planned with both matches being staged on the same day.

“We realised a while ago this might cause a problem but we did not look likely to have anyone playing for England and were a long way off qualifying for the final.

“We don’t want to see players who have taken part in the preliminary rounds not taking part in the final and it being downgraded.

“But I accept that England might want James to play on Saturday and that there would be implications if, say, he broke a finger playing for us at Lord’s. And liaison with the ECB is much better now than in the past.”

England name their 15-man World Cup squad today with Vince sure to be included after opening in the last two matches of the 4-0 one-day series win against Pakistan.

Vince has made 509 One-Day Cup runs at 72.7 and only needs 13 in the final to finish the competition as its top scorer.

Dawson played the last of his three one-day internationals seven months ago but is also a strong contender as the Most Valuable Player in this season’s One-Day Cup

His 18 wickets at 20.33 and 274 runs at 45.66 have given him a strong chance of pipping Joe Denly and David Willey to a place in England’s 15-man squad.

The World Cup starts on May 30, when England play South Africa at The Oval.
