Kevin Pietersen has signed a new three-year contract with Hampshire.

Pietersen signed for Hampshire from Nottinghamshire three years ago but since breaking into the England Test team midway through his first summer with the county he has been limited to seven one-day appearances in two-and-a-half seasons.

But he is glad to extend his association with the club, nevertheless.

He said: "I get a really warm welcome from the Hampshire fans whenever I'm down at The Rose Bowl and look forward to that continuing.

"Hampshire is a great club with big ambitions and I want to be part of that."

Chairman Rod Bransgrove said: "We don't see KP as often as we'd like but that's only because he continues to play so brilliantly in the international arena.

"We savour the times we have him in the Hampshire side and I'm certainly looking forward to him giving the opposition bowlers a rough ride here at The Rose Bowl on more than a few occasions next season."

Hampshire manager Paul Terry said: "KP adds something special whenever he plays for us. His skills are an inspiration to our young players so I'm delighted he'll be with us for another three years at least."
