HAMPSHIRE Cricket players have been told to start living up to their potential and take on more responsibility.

The advice comes from former Australian Test opener Matthew Elliott, who knows English county cricket well from his time at Glamorgan and Yorkshire.

"One of the problems at Glamorgan is that the team's younger players don't take enough responsibility for themselves," Elliott told the Daily Echo.

"They tend to rely on the senior players to lead them and that's something Hampshire should also be aware of this year.

"Hampshire were not consistent enough last year because they didn't score enough runs in the championship.

"It's time for guys like Jimmy Adams, Michael Lumb, Chris Benham and James Bruce, to ask themselves how badly they want to play for England and to go out and prove their ability in every game for Hampshire."
