CHRIS Tremlett has been given some encouraging words of advice from Australian Test seamer Brett Lee.

The 26-year-old Southampton-born fast bowler made his England Test debut last summer, playing all three games against India.

But, despite impressing, he was not selected for the recent Sri Lanka tour when the likes of Matthew Hoggard and Steve Harmison became available again.

Instead, Tremlett went to India with the England Performance Programme XI.

Australian Test selector and former Test fast bowler Mervyn Hughes told the Daily Echo a few weeks ago that he was unimpressed with Tremlett's elevation to the Test ranks.

But Lee has defended Tremlett - who recently won a recall to the England ODI squad for the forthcoming tour of New Zealand - and says the Rose Bowl star should be looking to hit his peak form in four or five years' time.
