AFC Totton have pulled off what they believe is one of the club's best-ever signings - former Saints midfielder Martin Thomas.

Thomas has spent the last few seasons at Eastleigh after signing as a 30-year-old in July 2004 after turning down a two-year contract at Conference National club Exeter City.

"It's a massive signing for us," enthused Totton assistant manager Sean New.

"It speaks volumes for Totton and what we have achieved that someone like Martin Thomas even spared the time to talk to us."

The FA Vase finalists and last season's Sydenhams Wessex League runners-up plan to deploy Thomas in the centre of midfield.

He can also be expected to help out with coaching now that Paul Masters has joined Hamble as manager.

"We talked with Martin and he's very eager, very keen, he's got a massive will to win," New added.

"He just said he wants to start enjoying his football again, because he hasn't done that in the last six months or so."
