HARRY Redknapp's old boss Milan Mandaric believes the Portsmouth manager is at a "crossroads" in his life - and he expects him to move in the direction of Newcastle.
But the main topic of conversation in Newcastle last night was the announcement by ex-England Saints and Newcastle striker Alan Shearer that he would like the vacant Newcastle manager's job if he was approached by the club.
Later a Magpies spokesman said that the situation had not changed.
"The club is still seeking an experienced manager," he said.
But there was a buzz in the pubs and clubs around the city as fans wanted to know more about the situation concerning Shearer, who is a huge favourite with the Toon Army.
Mandaric anticipates the lure of huge amounts of money to spend at St James' Park will outweigh any concerns Redknapp might have about leaving the comfort of Portsmouth to succeed sacked Sam Allardyce as Newcastle manager.
