WINCHESTER City are planning to bring in some more reinforcements to boost their Sydenhams Premier title hopes.

Depleted City were denied a point at fellow high-fliers Bournemouth Poppies, after conceding a last gasp goal in a 1-0 defeat – their second straight league defeat without scoring.

City were down to the bare bones at Victoria Park due to a long list of injuries and were forced to field Conor McCarthy, even though he was carrying ankle, groin and knee injuries.

City’s injury situation worsened after five minutes when midfielder Liam Crook limped off injured after five minutes.

And Max Cream settled an absorbing contest in favour of the home side when he netted with a stunning 20-yard drive with just two minutes remaining.

City owner Paul McCarthy said: “We definitely deserved something.

“We competed and pushed them all the way through but we looked a little bit anaemic up front.

“We have a depleted squad but hopefully in the next week to ten days that can be rectified and we can be a force in the league again because we are desperate to win it.”

Fortunately the damage to third place City’s title challenge wasn’t as bad as it could have been.

League leaders Poole Town were in FA Cup action at the weekend while second-placed Bemerton Heath Harlequins were held to a surprise draw at basement dwellers Alton Town.
