BARRY Mason’s spectacular sixth-minute strike clinched unbeaten Sholing a 1-0 home victory over Hungerford Town in the Zamaretto South & West last night.
It was a match the visitors dominated for long spells – and yet Dave Diaper’s Boatmen hit the woodwork twice and had a late effort cleared off the line.
“It was a really weird game,” Diaper reflected. “They controlled a large part of it and were probably the best team we’ve played this season. "They had a lot of drive, passion and movement and came here confident having been previously unbeaten away.
“But they had no real end product, whereas we could have scored four.”
The win lifts Sholing third, level on points with second-placed AFC Totton but with a game in hand.
