SHOLING’S interest in the Hampshire FA Senior Cup is over after falling foul of a 3-0 revenge mission by Havant & Waterlooville last night.
The Hawks – beaten 3-1 by Sholing at the quarter-final stage last season – became the first team to win at the Silverlake Arena this term.
Nic Ciardini opened the scoring for the Skrill Conference South visitors on 15 minutes, slotting home the rebound from Dennis Oli’s initial shot.
Sholing were pressing for a second-half leveller when Alek Przespolewski doubled the Hawks’ advantage 11 minutes from time following good link-up play with Scott Jones.
Then, with the final whistle approaching, Boatmen’s goalkeeper Matt Renouf could only parry sub Steve Ramsey’s shot and Jones headed home number three.
The defeat will not unduly worry Sholing, who have prioritised a Sydenhams Premier Division title push and progress in the FA Vase.
Havant’s SCS rivals Basingstoke Town and Farnborough also through to the last eight.
Basingstoke triumphed 2-0 at Sydenhams Premier strugglers Bournemouth Poppies thanks to two first-half Kezie Ibe strikes.
Having taken the lead through Phil Page at Aldershot Town, Farnborough were pegged back by an Elliott Blair leveller for 1-1. With no extra time played on a foggy night, Boro edged it 5-4 on penalties.
