WINCHESTER City lifted the North Hants Senior Cup tonight, but were pushed every inch of the way by Sydenhams Premier rivals Whitchurch United.
After a goalless first half at Foxcotte Park, City keeper Gareth Barfoot saved a penalty shortly before United took the lead.
It stayed that way until Warren Bentley equalised in stoppage time to force an extra half-hour.
There was still nothing to separate the teams, but it was City who triumphed 4-2 in the penalty shootout with Bentley, Chris Mason, Geoff Dunn and Micky Hubbard all on target for Paul Masters’ side.
