POOLE Town boss Tom Killick is optimistic AFC Bournemouth loan star Sam Surridge could return for their festive double-header against Gosport Borough.

Surridge has played a key role in Poole’s push for the National League South play-offs, netting seven times in 12 league appearances since joining the Tatnam club at the end of August.

But the teenage striker has missed their past three games after breaking his thumb and was initially expected to be sidelined well into the new year.

However, Surridge is understood to have opted against having an operation and could be back to face Gosport on Boxing Day (away, 1pm) and January 2 (home, 3pm).

“It was first thought he might be out for up to six weeks but we are hoping that is not going to be the case now,” said Killick.

“There is a chance he could be available over the festive period which would be a major boost because having him with us has been a real high point.”
