SHOLING’S defence of the Southampton Senior Cup remains on track.

The Boatmen are through to the semi-final stage following a hard-fought 1-0 win over neighbours Hamble Club at the Universal Stadium.

It was an up and down night in front of goal for marksman Lee Wort.

Having had a penalty saved and blazed the rebound over, he scored the only goal of the game just five minutes later.

Hamble bossed most of the second half but Sholing withstood the pressure to book a last-four tie against Team Solent or Blackfield & Langley, who meet at Test Park on Monday (7.30pm).

For Hamble Club, it was their third cup exit in just over a week, having bowed out of the Hampshire Senior Cup at Havant & Waterlooville and the FA Vase at Windsor.

Southampton Senior Cup semi-finals: Sholing v Team Solent or Blackfield & Langley (Tuesday, February 27, 7.30pm at AFC Totton); Southampton FC v Lymington Town (Thursday, March 1, 7.30pm at Blackfield & Langley FC).

Hamble Club host Shaftesbury in the Sydenhams Premier Division tomorrow (3pm) while Sholing visit Horndean.
