Tottenham could make a sensational move for unsettled Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko in the January transfer window.

The Bosnia-Herzegovina international has voiced his disillusionment with life on the bench under Roberto Mancini and that has alerted Spurs, who are desperately looking to add to their options up front.

Former boss Harry Redknapp enquired about Dzeko's services while the striker was at Wolfsburg but Spurs were blown out of the water when City made their £27m offer.

But now chairman Daniel Levy has reignited his interest in the striker's situation and could make an offer as soon as January if Emmanuel Adebayor continues to miss games through injury.

Manchester City rejected an approach from AC Milan in the summer but are now thought to be open to the idea of letting Dzeko leave to avoid dressing room unrest - providing they could bring in a replacement - and Mancini would prefer to see the hitman go abroad.

Another stumbling block could be the player's wages - worth £170,000 a week - meaning Spurs may have to explore the option of a loan move similar to the one which saw Adebayor move to White Hart Lane, with City paying a percentage.

Such an arrangement would likely forbid Dzeko from playing games against City.

The 26-year-old has only started two league matches this campaign and rejected the tag of 'super-sub' after he came on to score two in Manchester City's 2-1 win over West Brom ten days ago.

"I always used to play from the beginning (for Wolfsburg) and I scored a lot of goals - not as a sub," Dzeko said.

"In the last few games the situation has been like this and I'm just happy to be scoring goals. But I will never be a super-sub, I want to play."

Dzeko has made 17 appearances this season for club and country, scoring 11 goals in the process.
