Manager Roberto Martinez has asked to leave Wigan and has been given permission to speak to Everton, Latics chairman Dave Whelan has confirmed.
The Latics' boss, who oversaw the club's first FA Cup and relegation from the Premier League in the same week, has been linked with the Goodison Park job ever since it was revealed David Moyes would be replacing Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford as Manchester United manager.
