Brokenhurst Manor ace Jack Singh-Brar has continued his love-affair with the Faldo Series, following up his victory in the European Grand Final last year with a runner-up finish in the tournament’s Asian equivalent.

The 16-year-old Hampshire and England golf star, left, tied for second place at Mission Hills Golf Club, in China, as he came close to completing an incredible double.

Singh-Brar followed in the footsteps of an illustrious list of players, including Rory McIlroy, pictured right, when he won the Europe Grand Final last September.

He travelled to Shenzhen last week for the Asia final, where he produced another outstanding performance, although he was pipped at the post for both the overall title and the boys’ under-16 crown by China’s Xue Wen Luo.

“I was really pleased,” said Singh-Brar. “I was hitting it well before I went out there, so I had a good feeling.

“I was a bit gutted to miss out by a shot, but it was a great tournament.

“It gives me a lot of confidence for the rest of the year.

“I don’t think I’ve hit it that well at a tournament before.”

Singh-Brar, from Wellow, shot three rounds of 70 for a total score of six-under-par, just one behind Luo.

“I was pretty consistent,” he said. “Every round, I had 14 pars, one bogey and three birdies.”

In a dramatic finish, Singh-Brar nearly forced a play-off, but his eagle putt at the par-five 18th didn’t quite drop.

“I didn’t hole a lot all week,” he said. “The greens were a lot different to what we have over here.

“There was a lot of grain in them and I struggled to read them at times.”

Next week, Singh-Brar will again be on his travels, as he heads off for the French International Boys’ Amateur Championship.

He will be joined there by his fellow Hampshire player, Meon Valley’s Harry Ellis.
