FORMER Trojans hockey star Alex Danson has reached a half-century of goals for Great Britain.

The GB captain netted her 49th and 50th goals for her country in a 5-2 defeat against Argentina in Rosario.

Maria Jose Granatto grabbed a brace in the opening quarter before two from Bianca Donati and a strike from Milagros Fernandez saw Argentina work their way into a commanding 5-1 lead.

Seven minutes from time Southampton-born Danson, 32, netted her landmark strike, diving to lift a shot from the top of the circle high into the net.

Danson won a gold medal at the 2016 Olympic Games and a bronze in London 2012. She was awarded an MBE last year for services to hockey.

Danson was just 16 when she made her senior international debut in 2001 and was also runner-up in the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year. Since then she has gone on to establish herself among the world’s best players.

Argentina’s victory means they win the series with two games to spare.

The final two matches of the tour are on February 17.
