Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler says his side had a “little bit of luck” despite comfortably beating Coventry 5-0 on Sunday.
Both sides had chances in the attacking third in the first period but Brighton showed their quality when Charalampos Kostoulas gave them a first-half lead.
Malick Yalcouye doubled Brighton’s lead shortly after the restart and Coventry’s already difficult task got harder when Taiwo Awoniyi saw red for an elbow on Maxim De Cuyper.
Brighton put Coventry to the sword with three more goals courtesy of a Pascal Gross penalty, Lewis Dunk’s wonder strike and Yasin Ayari’s lovely curling finish.
Asked if it was a complete performance, Hurzeler replied: “No, I wouldn’t say complete. Part of the truth is also that we had a very good goalkeeper today.
“We had in certain moments, a little bit luck that the Coventry didn’t score, but I think overall we had a good balance.
“We had a great goalkeeper but at the right moment we scored the right goals.
“What was positive is we had the desire the score, the hunger to keep going and that’s overall a good performance but understand we need to be humble and don’t take these things for granted.”
Brighton have now scored 13 goals in their opening four Premier League matches which puts them as the highest scorers in the league.
The pick of the Brighton goals came from centre-back Lewis Dunk in the 83rd minute who saw his audacious long-range strike fly past Carl Rushworth and into the top left corner in an early contender for goal of the season.
Hurzeler called it a special goal.
He added: “I wasn’t surprised because I know that he has this technique, and he shows it daily in the daily business.
“He has a great right foot, but it’s even more important that he keeps a clean sheet together with the boys on the pitch. That’s like his main job.
“The special technique, you have to hit the balls in a special place and it gets a special spin, a special curve, and I think he showed it, it was the perfect shot.
“But overall it stood out that we kept the clean sheet. So that’s the most important and in Germany, there’s a phrase, the goal was the cherry on the cake for him.”
Coventry have yet to score a goal in their opening four games of the season but were denied on multiple occasions by Bart Verbruggen who made six saves.
Frank Lampard says his side need to get used to the quality of defending in the Premier League to find ways to score.
He said: “We need to just be honest about that, we need to take chances in this league to give ourselves standing. We need to be efficient in our own box to defend.
“We have to be more clinical, but with a centre half scoring from 35 yards and the clinical nature of the last finish.
“The Premier League’s got great goalkeepers everywhere. We need to do better. We need to be more clinical to finish is such an easy statement.
“We work a lot, finishing, we score like 97 goals last year, but the level goes up and goalkeepers will make big saves and unfortunate it’s happened to us.”
