Eastleigh picked up a couple of vital points as teams in the lower half of an exciting London 2 South-West table jostled for position.

They got off to a great start against visitors Old Tonbridgians when a Tom Willoughby break ended with Will Rigglesford dummying his way over the line.

Phil Baldwin made the conversion and followed it up with a penalty for a 10-0 lead.

Tonbridgians kept themselves in the game as they went over in the corner just before half time.

Eastleigh piled on the pressure after the break, forcing several penalties and the wave of a yellow card to an opposing player. With the man advantage Ricky Gormley was able to dive over wide on the left for Eastleigh’s second try.

But it was not long before the sides were level after a converted try and penalty for the Surrey side.

OT’s kept up the pressure and moved to 22-15 but Eastleigh were rewarded as they went back to basics.

Hard running lines from Tom Willoughby and Pete Noonan pushed them closer to the opposition try line and Adam Kidd took a recycled ball to crash over. Baldwin kicked the two extra points and the game finished 22-22.

The result moves Eastleigh a point closer to Winchester, who lost at home.
