Romsey lost 55-10 to Old Rutlishians but showed great spirit against a side with a strong southern hemisphere influence.
Romsey lost Pete Guille with a reoccurrence of a knee injury and he was replaced by the evergreen Darren Sharpe.
Old Ruts took the lead with two converted tries before Romsey got on the scoresheet through a 35-metre penalty by fly half Nick Creal.
Despite intense Romsey pressure Old Ruts broke away and two further tries made it 26-3 at half time.
Another two tries followed after the break along with a penalty Old Ruts before a well worked moved put Tristan Pattison in for his maiden Romsey try, converted by Creal.
The visitors then hit Romsey with two final tries.
