Tottonians reigned supreme in a battle of two undefeated sides in London 3 South-West.

Opponents Chobham came with the clear threat of dominating forward play but were beaten at their own game by the Water Lane side who ran out 29-7 winners.

Totts' coaching staff were delighted with the way the side played but have challenged the first team to give repeat performances throughout the winter.

"They have been threatening to put in a show like that for a while and they have now set the standard for the rest of the season," said Johnny Goodall.

Tottonians had Chobham on the back foot from the whistle and had chalked up a 24-0 lead by the break.

Robbie Searle settled Totts with a penalty in the first five minutes and then fullback Richard Buck made a blistering break from his own half before off-loading to Dan Taylor for a try.

Ben Rainbow was inches from increasing the lead minutes later but was held up. Robbie Searle put Totts 14-0 ahead with another couple of well-taken penalties before Chris Smith used his speed to go over and Searle hit a sweet convertion from the touchline before finishing off the half with another penalty.

Chobham tried to pile on the pressure after the break but their heads dropped when Paul Goodall picked up a loose ball and raced over to increase Totts' lead.

The visitors' fly-half finally put his side on the score sheet with a try that was converted but Totts' early work meant no way back for the Surrey side.

Totts face leaders Dorking in a couple of weeks who are also 100 per cent so far.

Bob Millard added: "They all played their part today but Danny Drake's scrummaging was out of this world and Dan Stocks' workrate was huge."

Despite putting in a solid forward performance, Winchester ultimately finished second best to Old Mid-Whitgiftians who played their rugby in London 2 South last season.

Having done all the hard work, the visitors too often gave the ball away in promising postions.

There was a lack of cohesion between backs and forwards in a game that will be part of the learning curve.

On paper this looked like a game Winchester could win but they never found a rhythm to bother their opponents.

First half tries for Tom Bolland and Jamie Kirkaldy never looked like enough for Winchester who eventually lost out 26-10.

Gosport & Fareham need not be too disappointed from their 52-5 defeat to Dorking at the weekend.

The Hampshire side fielded the youngest Gosport side in years and have had many disruptions due to players with injuries or lack of availabiltity.

Simon Ansell said: "I was happier with the performance than I thought I was going to be.

"Everyone who took part did their best. They were the better side but overall, looking at where we are and where they are, that was a very creditable performance against the top of the table side."

Early on in the game an encouraging try by Brett Gamblin for Gosport levelled the scores at 5-5 but Gosport were overcome by a team who tackled well and capitalised from their opponents' errors.
