Ben Paton (21) of Lymington was presented with a cheque for £500 from Lymington Town Sailing Club (LTSC) to launch his bid to win Olympic gold at Weymouth in 2012 in the 49er class - a high performance double handed dinghy.
Ben, a member of LTSC, is teaming up with fellow Lymington sailor Jonny Clegg (23), an experienced 49er crew.
Ben became Laser Radial World Champion this year is looking for sponsors to help him buy a 49er and to pay for the travel costs to attend training events and open meetings.
