THERE were emotional scenes in Portsmouth last night as ABN Amro Two finally crossed the finishing line in leg seven of the Volvo Ocean Race.

The young crew of international sailors, led by French skipper Sbastien Josse and including Southampton navigator Simon Fisher, were determined to finish for Hans Horrevoets, their Dutch crew member who died at sea last Thursday.

The families of all the crew members waited at the historic dockyard of Gunwharf Quays and there were emotional scenes as the sailors were reunited with their families.

In a show of support and compassion, the boat was welcomed by hundreds of well wishers involved in the VOR as well as the entire Team ABN Amro Amro One having won the leg on Sunday.

Apart from the tragic loss of one of their crew, Amro Two were involved in drama at the weekend after receiving a distress call from fellow boat Movistar, who had experienced serious keel problems and started taking on water.

Movistar skipper Bouwe made the decision to abandon ship and all 10 crew members were transferred to Amro Two.

Fisher and his fellow crew arrived in Portsmouth without the body of Horrevoets that had been transferred to a Royal Netherlands Naval frigate at 8.37am yesterday morning off the coast of Falmouth.

The crew bid their own farewell by holding a minute's silence.
