HAMBLE sailor Ian Southworth cut short his honeymoon to win a national championship.

Southworth triumphed in the J24 National Championships in his boat Hedgehog the third time he was won that particular title. His new wife Catrina Clarke cheered him on back on dry land.

The couple's honeymoon, in the Scilly Isles, was cut short to fit around the J24's held in the Cornish coastal town of Falmouth.

"I am very lucky that my wife is a keen sailor as well," said Southworth. "But it took some persuading to cut our honeymoon short so I could race.

"Luckily we are going on another honeymoon next week, so we still have that to look forward to which is great."

Catrina said, "Most wives wouldn't be impressed, but sailing is such a big part of our lives I reluctantly agreed.

"It was worth it as Ian won, but he has promised that the second half of our honeymoon will be uninterrupted.

"Well, apart from our joint participation in sailing events during Cork Week!"
