Saints midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin has received a late call-up to France's World Cup squad.

The 24-year-old is one of two players promoted from the reserve list, after injury ruled out Franck Ribery and Clément Grenier.

Schneiderlin, who has not yet been capped at senior level by his country, is joined by Montpellier midfielder Rémy Cabella in the squad.

Ribery had been following an individual training programme to overcome a back problem and failed to prove his fitness after rejoining the full squad on Friday.

Grenier sat out the session as he underwent scans on a thigh injury, and both players' worst fears were confirmed by coach Didier Deschamps.
