It’s hard to understand why it has taken almost 70 years since the end of the Second World War for Britain to et around to honouring the hundreds of thousands of bomber aircrews that risked their lives and in so many cases paid the ultimate sacrifice to help win the war against Germany.
The unveiling of the memorial by The Queen yesterday finally corrected that wrong.
The fact the BBC couldn’t help themselves from injecting the number of Germans that died from the bombing into every report, and even quoted the Mayor of Dresden, was typical of the corporation.
There was no mention made of course of the terror bombing of London, Coventry and Southampton – to name but a few – on the Beeb. Goebels would have been proud of them.
